Nghia Nguyen - Healthy Workers Story

Across town, Healthy Workers helps Nghia Nguyen stay competitive and retain employees. He is the owner of Aroma Coffee & Snack, a bustling eatery within walking distance of East Valley Health Center. Nguyen says that health coverage is a concern to potential employees. “Healthy Workers is a good thing we have to offer,” says Nguyen. “It gives me the edge.”

The Healthy Workers program was created through the collaborative efforts of the Santa Clara Family Health Plan, Working Partnerships USA, and the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System – the same coalition that created the nation’s first universal healthcare program for children, the Children’s Health Initiative. Other local leaders in health care providing invaluable support to the launch of this program include Blue Shield of California, Blue Shield of California Foundation, El Camino Hospital, The California Endowment, The Health Trust, California Wellness Foundation and the Nathan Cummings Foundation.

Through the work of these partners in establishing the Healthy Workers program, employees in small businesses can now have affordable access to a broad network of public and private providers through Valley Medical Center, and Santa Clara County and community health clinics.
