Medi-Cal
Medi-Cal is the primary safety-net public insurance program in California. It is free for children from birth to age 19, parents, and pregnant women.
You and/or your child may be eligible if you are:
- a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant
- a California resident
- aged, blind, or otherwise disabled
- a member of a family whose annual income falls within the prescribed guideline, which is currently between 100% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Level; for children, the guideline is a sliding scale dependant on the size of the family and the age of the child.

Healthy Families
Healthy Families provides low-cost health coverage to children of moderate-income families that earn too much to qualify for Medi-Cal.
Your child may be eligible if he or she:
- is a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant
- is a California resident
- is under the age of 19
- is not covered by Medi-Cal
- was not covered by private health coverage during the past three months
- is a member of a family whose annual income falls within the prescribed guideline which is currently no more than 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level; the guideline is a sliding scale dependent on the size of the family and the age of the child*
Premiums range from $0-24 per child per month, with a family maximum of $72 per month.
*Your child may qualify for Healthy Families even if your income exceeds the given in the Federal Poverty Level guideline. Family income may be adjusted by taking deductions if you pay child support and/or alimony, or pay for childcare.
If you are an expectant mother, you may apply for Healthy Families up to three months before your due date.

Healthy Kids
Your child may be eligible if he or she:
- is a Santa Clara County resident
- is under the age of 19
- is not covered by Medi-Cal or Healthy Families
- was not covered by private health coverage in the past three months
- is a member of a family whose annual income falls within the prescribed guideline, which is currently no more than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level*
Premiums range from $0-24 per child per month, with a family maximum of $72 per month.
*Your child may qualify for Healthy Kids even if your income exceeds the given in the Federal Poverty Level guideline. Family income may be adjusted by taking deductions if you pay child support and/or alimony, or pay for childcare.
Parents who are under 18 may apply for Healthy Kids for both themselves and their children.

Kaiser Child Health Plan
Your child may be eligible if he or she:
- is under the age of 19
- is not covered by Medi-Cal or Healthy Families
- is not eligible for health coverage that is paid for, in any part, by an employer
- is a member of a family whose annual income falls within the prescribed guideline, which is currently no more than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level
